Requires general or spinal anesthesia. Side effects similar to transurethral microwave heat

 

Laser prostate surgery

 

Moderate to severe symptoms

 

Outpatient procedure.

Requires general or spinal anesthesia. Side effects include temporary urinary frequency

 

Transurethral resection (TURP)

 

Severe symptoms

 

Inpatient hospitalization.

Requires general or spinal anesthesia. Potential for significant bleeding, temporary urinary frequency, rare incontinence
